How to deposit into a betting account with MTN MoMo in Zambia

Almost every Zambian bookmaker takes MTN MoMo, and on most of them a deposit lands in seconds. Here is how it works and what to watch for.

Before you start

• Your MoMo number must be registered in your own name. Bookmakers match it against your account details.
• Have enough balance for the deposit plus any MoMo transaction fee. Most bookmakers charge nothing on their side.
• Know the minimum. It is K1 at SportyBet, betPawa, Premier Bet and GSB, K2 at Betway, K5 at PariPesa and K20 at 1xBet, 22Bet and Betwinner.

The steps

1. Log in to the bookmaker and open Deposit.
2. Choose MTN MoMo and enter the amount.
3. Confirm the phone number shown is your MoMo number.
4. A prompt appears on your phone. Enter your MoMo PIN.
5. The balance updates within a few seconds. If it has not after two minutes, check your MoMo SMS for the transaction status.

When it fails

• No prompt on your phone. Dial *115# and look for a pending approval, or try again.
• Money left MoMo but the balance did not change. Keep the MoMo transaction ID from the SMS and send it to the bookmaker's support. This is usually fixed within the hour.
• Wrong number. Deposits go to the number on your account. You cannot deposit from a friend's line.

Fees

None of the bookmakers we list charge a deposit fee. MTN may charge its standard merchant payment fee depending on the amount.
